29 MarRevision to the reporting of Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) – Update
The OAML has been collaborating with the Ontario Renal Network (ORN) regarding changes in the reporting of kidney function tests to clinicians. As a result of a review of recent evidence and current practice, community laboratories have removed the comment related to race modifier when eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) is reported to clinicians.
Laboratories are advising clinicians that the race-modifier should not be applied and that the unadjusted eGFR should be used to make management decisions for their patients.
The OAML is undertaking revisions to its Community Laboratory Guideline for the Calculation of an eGFR and its Interpretation in Concert with Urine/Albumin/Creatinine Ratio (ACR). This update will include the transition to the new race-free CKD-EPI 2021 calculation for eGFR.
