12 MayReview of eGFR Calculation for OAML Guideline
Recent evidence has emerged that suggests a reassessment of the formula for calculating
estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is in order.
OAML member laboratories along with other relevant professional organizations are reviewing
this evidence to determine changes that may be required in the calculation of eGFR and the use
of the removal of the modifier for race.
Testing laboratories will communicate any potential changes to their clients once the review is
complete. At that time the OAML will update its Community Laboratory Guideline for the
calculation of an Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) and its Interpretation in Concert
the Urine/Albumin/Creatinine Ratio (ACR), April 2015
